How to Get Rid of Bags Under Eyes and Causes Explained

I recently read in a local news article – one completely dedicated to people who suffer from baggy eyes - that baggy eyes are more of a factor of heredity than anything else. That might be somewhat comforting, yet frustrating as you know that you are more prone than others and that puffy eyes may be harder to get rid of.

“Bags under eyes are caused by several changes that occur together,” says Dr. L. Mike Nayak, a facial plastic surgeon with Nayak Plastic Surgery & Skin Enhancement Center. “The bags themselves are composed of fat that bulges forward as the eyelid weakens with age. Desirable fat from the uppermost part of the cheek tends to disappear as part of the same (aging) process, contributing to dark circles and accentuating bags in the eyelid area. Finally, the overlying skin thins wrinkles and collects excess pigment, contributing to the baggy, shadowed appearance.”

Dr. Nayak also explains that the best wrinkle eye cream can temporarily improve the appearance of baggy eyes because of the concentration of moisturizer – which is much greater in eye cream than a regular moisturizer. Wrinkle eye creams also build collagen, strengthening your skin’s fibers and making the appearance o fine lines disappear.

Some common tips for relieving baggy eyes are cool compresses in the morning like an ice pack, caffeinated tea bag, or cool spoons. These really do work great for many people and it’s cheap and only takes 10 minutes.

Although, as recommnded by Dr. Nayak, usually people who inherit their eye bags will need to resort to an eye cream to see the best results and perhaps even take it a step further and look into surgery.
